Welcome to my web site. I hope you find some useful information here. I have gathered information on a wide variety of assistive technology and engineering topics on this site. Not only is it a good resource for reminding me what I have already learned, but it also provides web surfers the opportunity to learn a bit about assistive technology. The number one type question I receive is where do I find an assistive technology job, internship, or training. I am working on putting together some up to date resources. Check out my Employment page. I hope to soon have a good list of internships and co-ops available in the U.S. for students wishing to gain experience in the field of assistive technology. What's a podcast? you ask... Podcasts distribute audio files, usually MP3, using and RSS feed or Atom Syndication via the Internet. Video files can also be distributed, which is referred to as a vodcast. I became really intersted in podcasts this Feburary when EASI did a 2 part web training on the subject. If you know of any assistive technology related podcasts, please let me know and I will add them to this list. As defined in the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 Rehabilitation engineering means the systematic application of engineering sciences to design, develop, adapt, test, evaluate, apply, and distribute technological solutions to problems confronted by individuals with disabilities in functional areas, such as mobility, communications, hearing, vision, and cognition, and in activities associated with employment, independent living, education, and integration into the community. Rehabilitation technology means the systematic application of technologies, engineering methodologies, or scientific principles to meet the needs of, and address the barriers confronted by, individuals with disabilities in areas that include education, rehabilitation, employment, transportation, independent living, and recreation. The term includes rehabilitation engineering, assistive technology devices, and assistive technology services. |
